The
debut Rocky Mountain States Piano Competition for Outstanding
Amateurs in association with the Van Cliburn Foundation of Ft. Worth,
Texas, was held on May 26-May 28, 2000 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Milton Farbstein of Prescott, Arizona was awarded the grand prize.
Inspired by the Van Cliburn
International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs held in Ft.
Worth, Texas in June, 1999, three rounds of competition featured 12
pianists from the western United States. Finalists included: Melinda Baird of Littleton, Colorado; Grace Wigglesworth of
Monument, Colorado; Sondra Hittle of Louisville, Colorado; David
Gilliland of Austin, Texas .
"This was great experience for
everyone involved in our three days of competitions, master classes and
recitals,” said Greg Adams, competition director. “The performers
generated real excitement..."
The competition will be held again in
2002.
